We’re now almost a year into our VR-focused expansion, Graceland, and developer Zomato has announced the first ever commercial VR game on SteamVR.
Grac, which has an estimated 20 million active users and a total of $2.6 million in sales since it launched in August, is set in the world of the late-nineteenth-century French revolution, where the government banned all dissent, and the working class became the privileged class of the country.
The developers at Zomatoes game are aiming to create an immersive experience, in which players can take on the role of a peasant, slave, or soldier, and use the Oculus Rift to navigate through the world.
The developer has been making VR games for the last six years, and was the first to release an official VR version of its game in 2015, The Great Escape.
While VR games have been around for a long time, it has been hard to get people interested in them because of the price tag and lack of the gamepad-centric nature of the VR market.
Grampeland, however, will be a free game for anyone to download.
It’s a free download for the Oculus Touch, a controller that’s often the most popular one for VR games.
Developers are hoping that a wide audience of VR users will want to jump in and try the game.
The game is set to launch on Steam later this year.
